Directorate General Copyright and Cinema of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism has executed a project which is supported by the EU Commission. The basic goals of this project entitled "Support to Turkey's efforts in the full alignment and enforcement in the field of intellectual property rights with a focus on fight against piracy" are harmonizing Turkish Copyright Law with EU Law, ensuring a strong coordination among the relevant institutions and organizations, strengthening institutional and technical capacity of the Ministry and establishing a strategy to raise public awareness by participation of collecting societies, Interior Ministry, Customs and users.

For the part of the project dealing with harmonization of laws, Ministry of Culture and Tourism has worked together with the Greek European Public Law Center. A legislation committee was established and meetings were organized to evaluate the Turkish Copyright Law. Asst. Prof. Dr. Gul Okutan Nilsson participated in these meetings on behalf of the center.

In the context of the project Turkish Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works was translated into English by Asst. Prof. Dr. Gul Okutan and Asst. Prof. Dr. Feyzan Hayal Şehirali.
